It is finally starting to feel like summer in Western New York! There is a core group of essential pool supplies that every pool owner will need at some point during the season. These pool essentials will ensure you are ready to take care of any pool problems that may arise and help you avoid problems to begin with.
A Pool Vacuum – A pool vacuum is necessary in order to pick up the dirt and debris that has found its way to the pool bottom. Your filter does a good job of circulating the water and chemicals, but it does not always all the dirt. Sometimes it settles to the bottom and the only way to clean it effectively is to vacuum.
Telescopic Poles – Poles are a handy tool for manually cleaning the surface, bottom, and walls of your pool. It is what the pool net, brush, skimmer, rake or vacuum can be attached to and allows you to clean, skim, vacuum or scrub the deepest and shallowest parts of your pool - without having to get in.
A Good Pool Brush – Brushes are used mainly to clean the sides of the pool. Brushing not only lifts visible dirt, but also invisible scale and film buildup in your pool. The pool brush can be attached to a telescopic pole and is essential if you start to notice algae build up.
Pool Equipment Hooks – All of your pool equipment should be well protected, and you should be mindful of how they are stores. This includes poles, brushes, nets and more. With mounted pool hooks, you can keep your equipment off the ground and out of the reach of children. Try to keep these items out of the sun and rain (if possible).
A pool filter & pump:
It is essential that your pool has a pump and pool filter hooked up. Pool pumps can keep your pool clean with minimal effort from you. All you have to do is make sure the pump is on and the filters are frequently changed. The water will then cycle through the pump and get cleaned. Without a pool pump, your stagnant water will be a breeding ground for algae. However, your pool will still require additional maintenance even with a pool pump.
A pool net or leaf skimmer:
If a large bug lands in the pool beside you, you are going to want a net immediately. Pool nets are one of the fastest ways to remove floating leaves and bugs from your pool. Pool nets can also pick up items that may be too large for your pool pump.
A water test kit & pool chemicals:
In order for your pool to be safe to swim in, you have to keep a selection of pool chemicals on hand. Your pool may turn green, cloudy white, or feel gross to the touch. By using a water test kit and doing some research, you can determine what your pool needs. One chemical that every pool needs is chlorine, but just chlorine isn’t enough. Maintaining a proper balance of pool chemicals can be tricky. That’s why we recommend contacting us anytime you need pool maintenance.
Pool toys:
Our selection of pool supplies goes beyond just chemicals. We also try to keep a range of pool toys in stock. Pool toys are what makes a pool fun and relaxing. With the right pool toy, you can lay down, float on the water, and relax.
Once you have these basic pool items, you can expand your collection to include more pool supplies. For example, you may discover you need a pool vacuum, more pool toys, a solar cover, and more.
